Connecting with Your Wedding Photographer

I cannot possibly get enough of Micah-Ann and Aaron! When they reached out to me via The Knot earlier this summer, I wanted to do everything I could possibly think of to be their photographer. From their choice of venue to Micah-Ann's organizational prowess and wedding vision, I just knew I wanted to be part of this celebration.

When we met for coffee, I was even more convinced. Aaron grew up in the town where I met Kyle and they eloped in that same town to include loved ones who might not be able to trek to Virginia the following spring. Having a soft spot for that town and a nostalgic desire to go back someday, I felt instantly connected to the two of them! Then Micah-Ann opened up her Excel document with all of her wedding vision and plans and I swooned. My detail-loving heart could have exploded with joy. Our connection was deepened by a mutual love for Noelle at Blush757 - Micah-Ann had worked with her before as a bridesmaid and already planned to have her do her bridal makeup!

After our coffee date, when Micah-Ann reached out to book me as their photographer, I definitely squealed and did a little happy dance!

Engagement Photos at Norfolk Botanical Gardens

Norfolk Botanical Gardens and I have something in common - we both include complimentary engagement sessions in our wedding packages! Normally there is a fee for a session at the gardens, but we were able to get two complimentary hours of photo time since Micah-Ann and Aaron are getting married at the Gardens. There are so many beautiful spots at NBG, so I started by asking Micah-Ann and Aaron what their favorites were, then I built our timeline around the places they love most. We got some gorgeous photos in the Japanese Gardens, then walked to the Twin Redwood trees (pictured above), while stopping once or twice along the way when we came across a particularly picturesque spot.

The butterfly garden was a little past its prime, but the wildflower fields right beside the butterfly garden looked absolutely incredible! We even spotted several Monarch butterflies floating around in the wildflowers! As we headed to the last spot on the list - the Renaissance Court - it began to rain. We took a few quick shots in front of the fountain and in the statuary vista before wrapping up our engagement session at Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and now I'm even more excited for their wedding there next spring!
